Yes, you CAN enjoy the summer holidays and grow your business. Here’s how...

f you’ve got school-age kids, you’ll know exactly what’s coming:

Six weeks (or more!) of “Mum, I’m bored…” and “Mum, can I have…?” on repeat while you try to keep the business ticking over.

I’ve been in business for over 26 years, so trust me when I say—I get it.

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve taken important client calls with one foot wedged against my office door to stop little ones barging in screaming. 🤦‍♀️

So, from one mum-in-business to another, here are a few things that really help me (and might help you too):

Book them into a club or two.
A few days at a local sports camp, art club or activity week can work wonders. They’re usually low cost, great fun, and give them that social time they’re used to at school. Plus, it gives you some protected work time.

 Team up with another mum.
If you’ve got a friend in the same boat, swap a day or even a half day. One day you take both sets of kids, another day she does. Everyone gets a breather and the kids love the playdate.

 Call in the family.
A grandparent or auntie for a few hours can be a lifesaver. Sometimes just knowing you have a solid 3-4 hour block makes all the difference.

 Condense your workdays.
Batch tasks, prioritise ruthlessly and aim to have full days off when you can. You’ll never regret a day at the park or beach—but you might regret missing it for an email that could’ve waited.

 Take the holiday.
Honestly—go away if you can, even for a few nights. There’s always something in the business that could convince you not to. But once you’re away, you’ll realise how much you needed the break and the change of scenery. I always do!

 Don’t forget you.
It’s easy to run on empty trying to keep everyone happy. But take an hour (or two!) just for yourself: a quiet coffee, a walk, or even a nap. Rested you = better for everyone.

These summer holidays won’t last forever. My older 4 have grown in the blink of an eye—and I promise you, one day you’ll miss the chaos.

So juggle, plan, swap, outsource, automate—but most of all, enjoy it.

And if you ever need a friendly ear about how to keep your business running smoothly during the chaos, you know where I am.
