When life forces your business to stop...

I was speaking recently to a mutual acquaintance of someone I know who runs their own business — and sadly she was telling me the business owner has become really ill.

The whole business has just had to grind to a halt.

Of course, the main priority in a situation like that is your health. Everything else comes second to looking after yourself and your family.

But as a small business owner, the impact is doubled. At the very time when you need financial security and peace of mind, you’re faced with both ill health and financial stress. It’s a horrible combination — and sadly, one I see far too often.

This is why it’s so important not to build a business that relies entirely on you for it to operate and survive.

Because if you’re the only one holding it all together, what happens if you need to step away?

You need:
A team in place to keep things moving
Financial protection to support you if you can’t work
Systems and safeguards so your business doesn’t fall apart without you

Think of it this way: if you were employed, you’d expect some level of sick pay or protection (though it doesn’t always happen). As business owners, we have to take responsibility to ensure that we are covered and looked after.

Because your business should support your life — not the other way around.

This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking structure we work on inside my Group Coaching Programme. It’s not just about growing your business today — it’s about building something resilient and sustainable, so you’re protected for the future too.

If you know you need to put these foundations in place, I’d love to help you get started.

Have a great weekend!
