The power of recognition — and why it matters more than you think

On Sunday night, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Your Scottish Wedding Awards — and what an event it was!
Let me tell you, the people who make your weddings so magical… they also really know how to party! 💃🍾
I don’t attend many of these big industry events, but what I loved about this one was that every finalist had been nominated by real Brides and Grooms, and the winners were chosen by an independent judging panel.
That’s the kind of recognition that really means something.
Because let’s be honest — if you’ve been around business long enough, you’ll know that not every award is what it seems. Some are, shall we say, “pay to play” — where the recognition goes to those who can afford the sponsorship.
But when your customers or clients take the time to nominate you, that’s a whole different level of validation.
It’s proof that what you’re doing is having a real impact.
Here’s why I think you should be entering — or encouraging your clients to nominate you — for awards:
1️⃣ It builds instant credibility.
Awards give you social proof. Whether you win or not, being a finalist says someone noticed your hard work — and that builds trust with future clients.
2️⃣ It boosts visibility and exposure.
Even just being shortlisted gets your name out there. Awards are brilliant PR opportunities, giving you fresh content for your marketing and a great story to tell your audience.
3️⃣ It’s incredible motivation for your team.
If you’ve got staff, nothing beats the buzz of being recognised for your work. It reminds everyone that what they do every day matters.
And if you’re part of the wedding industry, the Your Scottish Wedding Awards — run by the amazing Lesley Traynor of Your Scottish Wedding Magazine — is the award ceremony to aim for!
Even if you don’t win anything, you’ll be surrounded by leaders in your field, connecting with incredible business owners… and let’s just say, you’ll have one of the best nights out of the year. 😉
So whether you’re a florist, photographer, venue owner, or makeup artist — start thinking about what you could be putting forward next year. If you are not in the Wedding Industry find the equivalent for your particular Sector because recognition might just be the missing piece that shines a light on everything you’ve been building.
Have a great week,
Speak soon,
Cherie
