The painful reminder I needed this weekend...

Saturday morning I woke with an awful crick in my neck.
The second I lifted my head I knew… it was going to be a painful, unproductive day.
So I gave in. Popped a few painkillers, heat pad on, and delegated Saturday morning football duty (what a shame! 😅). In between nodding off with the pain, I decided to surrender to a completely non-productive day.
Now, I don’t watch TV regularly — but I do have a couple of guilty pleasures: The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills(don’t judge me!) and The Hotel Inspector. And luckily for me, there was a rerun of The Hotel Inspector I hadn’t seen. Perfect.
It featured a couple heading into retirement who had bought a beautiful looking hotel (well the building anyway!) a few years earlier. After a false start with a chef who served boil-in-the-bag meals, their son — a trained chef — had taken over the kitchen. His food was good, well received by Alex Polizzi… but she was quick to point out the problem:
The portion sizes were huge for the prices they were charging.
Her first question to the son was:
👉 “Have you costed your food out?”
His answer?
👉 “No.”
Alex’s reply was brutal but true:
👉 “Then you’re not a Head Chef. You’re just a cook. All Head Chefs cost out their food.”
The reality was, the hotel was haemorrhaging money. They were losing profit on every single plate they served. And Alex pointed out that if they fixed their pricing and made a profit, the parents could actually step away from the business in a few short years.
And it reminded me so much of many of the women I work with.
They are passionate. They love what they do. They care deeply about the service they provide.
But they don’t stop to properly cost out their products or services.
And passion, on its own, won’t keep the doors open.
Passion isn’t profit.
And if you don’t know your numbers, you could be quietly haemorrhaging money without realising it.
That’s why in my Group Coaching Programme, we dig deep into this — making sure you’re building a business that’s not just busy, but profitable.
You’ll be surrounded by a group of like-minded female business owners, all working to build businesses that give them the time, money, and freedom they wanted when they first started out.
