The one thing we give away far too easily...

Well… that’s my youngest officially finished up for the Christmas holidays 🎄
It all started with a lovely carol service yesterday, which definitely flicked the switch into full Christmas mode for me.
It’s been a very busy run-up to the holidays and, while I won’t be putting my feet up just yet, I will be taking things a little easier with the run up to Christmas.
One thing that’s continued right up to now — and will carry on into the New Year — is application calls for the Group Coaching Programme.
And honestly, I love them.
I love hearing about the incredible businesses women are running, the journeys that led them there, and what they’re hoping to build next. Even when I don’t feel the programme is the right fit yet, I still get something from every single conversation — and I hope the women I speak to leave with clarity or ideas they can take forward.
But here’s the honest part.
There have also been quite a few no-shows, despite plenty of reminders.
I’m not insulted by it — life happens, especially at this busy time of year — but I do value my time more than anything else.
Because time is the one thing we can’t buy more of.
It’s finite.
It’s precious.
And once it’s gone, it’s gone.
And this has really highlighted something I’ve noticed again and again over the last 12+ months of running Glasgow Women’s Business Growth…
So many women don’t value their own time.
The amount of women I speak to who:
work for free in the hope it might lead to paid work
massively over-deliver on jobs without charging for it
go way over agreed hours
feel uncomfortable enforcing boundaries
They know it doesn’t feel right.
They know they shouldn’t be doing it.
But they do it anyway.
And here’s the uncomfortable truth:
If you don’t respect your own time, it’s very hard to expect anyone else to.
Your time, your knowledge, your experience — these are your most valuable assets.
So if you challenge yourself to do one thing in the New Year, let it be this:
👉 Stop giving away what you should be charging for.
And if you ever book time with someone — whether that’s me or anyone else — please turn up. Because what’s being given is the most precious thing we have.
If learning how to charge properly, set boundaries, and manage your time feels like something you want to get better at, January’s Group Coaching Programme is a great place to start — not just for the tools and systems, but for being in a room where valuing your time becomes the norm, not the exception.
Have a great weekend!!
Speak soon,
Cherie
