Life isn’t linear — and neither is business

After a really busy and exciting week with my Group Coaching clients, 1-1 clients and onboarding a few new clients, I was looking forward to a weekend of family time and a good bit of batch cooking.

With a busy week ahead, I love knowing there are home-cooked dinners ready to go. Your health is your wealth, after all!

But of course, life had other plans.

Just as I was returning from our youngest’s Saturday morning football, I got a call from my mum’s carers. They’d had to ring for an ambulance and asked if I could get over to sit with her, as they needed to leave for another client.

So off I went — after sorting childcare for our 6-year-old (thankfully his 22-year-old brother stepped in, and the little one thought it was the best day ever!).

And then… we waited.
Six hours later, the ambulance finally arrived.

I had my laptop with me (my mum isn’t a big talker these days), so I managed to get a bit of work done in between. But it was a reminder of why I love having my own business — and why I’m so passionate about helping other women in business.

Because our lives are not linear.
We wear so many hats.
We carry so many responsibilities that ultimately, a lot of the time, fall on our shoulders.

But when your business is set up properly, it can adapt.
It can bend when life throws curveballs.
And it can keep running, even when you need to step away.

So today, I’d love to know — what do you love best about being your own boss?

And if you’re struggling with the juggle of home and work right now, here are 3 quick tips that you can implement today:

1️⃣ Know your numbers.
When you’re crystal clear on your costs, margins, and sales targets, you can make smart decisions quickly instead of agonising over them — saving time and stress.

2️⃣ Build simple systems.
Create step-by-step processes for the things you do regularly (from onboarding a new client to posting on social media). When life gets hectic, you or someone else can follow the system without it all depending on you.

3️⃣ Follow up, always.
Most small business owners lose sales not because they’re bad at what they do, but because they don’t follow up. Systemise your follow-up — whether that’s emails, calls, or messages — so opportunities aren’t lost when you’re busy elsewhere.

Life will always throw us curveballs. But with the right foundations in place, your business doesn’t just survive — it keeps moving forward, and gives you the freedom to be where you need to be.

Have a great week!
