Holding it all together? Read this.
When Rachel Reeves cried in Parliament last week, I felt it.
No matter what your political preference, your heart had to go out to her.
There she was — the Chancellor of the Exchequer — clearly overwhelmed, her voice cracking as she answered questions and tears running down her face at Prime Minister’s Questions.
You could almost see it on her face:
The weight of the world.
Or at least, the weight of the UK economy.
And it got me thinking…
How many times have you felt like that in your own business?
Where the pressure builds…
The decisions stack up…
The to-do list never ends…
And even though you love your business — it starts to feel like a lot.
Here’s the thing:
When you’re employed, you’ve got people to talk to.
Colleagues to vent with. A manager or HR to lean on.
But when you’re the business owner? It’s just… you.
And you can’t (or don’t want to) offload to your staff.
You worry they’ll see you as weak.
Or worse — think the business is in trouble and start looking for another job.
Which would just leave you in an even bigger hole.
And if your family or friends aren’t business owners?
They often don’t get it.
“Well, just close the business then,” they might say — thinking they’re being helpful.
But you don’t want to close it.
You love what you do.
Even on the hard days, you know you’re building something meaningful — something you’re passionate about, maybe even something you want to sell when you retire.
So what do you do when it all feels like too much?
You build a support network.
A real one.
With other female business owners who get it.
People who understand the pressure, the decisions, the risks — and the passion.
We are lucky in Glasgow there are a lot of networking groups for female business owners, attend a few and see if there is one that is a good fit and build your tribe.
This is something I care deeply about creating — and it's exactly what I’m building inside my 1-1 coaching and group coaching programme.
An exclusive community of women business owners who want to grow, support each other, and not feel so alone in it all.
We all need a safe place to talk things through.
To ask, “Am I mad for feeling this way?”
To get ideas, feedback, or just a bit of reassurance.
